Men’s Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaker To Emmanuel, 9-8
LEICESTER, Mass. – Host Becker College dropped a heart-breaking 9-8 result to visiting Emmanuel College in GNAC men's lacrosse action on Saturday at Alumni Field, as Emmanuel sophomore attacker Evan Dolber (Malden, Mass.) scored the game-winner with one second remaining in the game. The Saints of Emmanuel College are now 5-8 on the season with a 3-4 in the conference standings while the Hawks of Becker drop to 4-10 and 3-5 against GNAC opponents.
Emmanuel stormed to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but Becker rallied back to tie it at 4-4 going into halftime. Falling behind again in the third, the Hawks tied it again at 6-6 just before the end of the period. In the fourth, the home team went up 8-7 with 7:24 remaining in regulation off a strike from sophomore attacker David Deschenes (Gales Ferry, Conn.). But the Saints' freshman midfielder Justin Kelly (Collegeville, Penn.) scored the equalizer with 1:17 remaining. That setup Dolber's game-winner, which came with an assist to Kelly.
Kelly scored two goals with an assist to lead a balanced Saint attack that saw eight different players find the back of the net. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Sabuda (Indianapolis, Ind.) contributed a goal and an assist. Sophomore midfielder Jake Jaskolski (St. Clair Shores, Mich.), freshmen midfielders Michael Rogers (New Haven, Conn.), C.J. Galdorisi (Northport, N.Y.) and Chris Curtis (Ashland, Mass.), and freshman attacker Max Mercier (Lincolnville, Me.) all added goals. Sophomore goalie Austin Lauzier (Bedford, N.H.) recorded 11 stops to earn the win.
For the Hawks, Deschenes had a brilliant game with five goals, tying a season-high. Senior midfielder Joe Ignagni (Kingston, Mass.) had a goal and three assists, while junior midfielder John DeAngelis (Swampscott, Mass.) and senior attacker Jeff Petersen (Syracuse, N.Y.) also scored. Senior goalie Michael Munoz (Avon, Conn.) finished the day with 12 saves.
Becker will conclude their season on Tuesday when they travel to Anna Maria College to face the AMCATS in a 7:00 p.m. contest. Emmanuel will travel to Lasell to play the Lasers in their next match, also on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
