LEICESTER, Mass.- On Wednesday, April 9 Becker College celebrated National Student Athlete Day. 137 student-athletes were recognized for achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
National Student Athlete Day is part of the annual celebration of Division III Week. Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with Division III to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct a type of outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement.
Director of Athletics Frank Millerick opened the ceremony by showing a highlight video of the March 30th Special Olympics event that the Student- Athlete Advisory Committee hosted. Click here to view the highlight video.
17 student-athletes were also induced into Chi Alpha Sigma. Chi Alpha Sigma is a nonprofit organization established to recognize college student-athletes who earn a varsity letter in at least one sport while maintaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA throughout their junior and senior years.
National Student-Athlete Day wrapped up with the presentation of the President’s Cup, which is handed out to the team with the highest grade point average. This year’s recipient was the baseball team.
