Becker College Equestrian Team attended their first horse show of the season on October 13 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island at Glen Farm Stables. This show was hosted by Roger Williams University. The weather turned out to be nice and the show was held outside. Becker College finished 5th overall.
Bridget Atkins and Emily McGuirk competed in Intermediate over fences. Bridget finished 6th in her class and Emily finished 5th in her class. Emily needed one point to point out of Intermediate fences and to go to Regionals, which her 5th place finish granted her. She will now be competing in Open fences.
Catherine Merrill, captain of BCET, competed in Novice fences. She had a beautiful round and finished 2nd.
After the jumping classes came to a conclusion, the flat classes started. Emily McGuirk was first to go and competed in Open flat. She rode the same horse that she had in over fences and earned 4th with him on the flat.
Bridget Atkins rode in Intermediate flat and earned 2nd place.
Terise Cole, Catherine Merrill, and Haley Becker rode in Novice flat. Terise had a great ride and won her class. Catherine finished 5th in her class. Haley, who is a freshman on the team, drew the same horse that Catherine had and finished 6th.
Hailee Klapproth, Katelyn MacLean, and Sara Rivard rode in beginner walk/trot/canter. This was Hailee and Katelyn's first IHSA show. Hailee finished 2nd and Katelyn finished 4rd. Sara Rivard, manager of BCET, rode great and won her class.
Nicole Smeaton, Danielle Craven, and Felicia Siclari rode in the walk/trot division. Nicole finished 3rd, which pointed her out of walk/trot and she qualified for Regionals. Nicole will now be competing in beginner walk/trot/canter. Danielle finished 4th in her class. This was Felicia's first horse show ever and she also finished 4th.
Becker College had a successful first horse show and they are excited about hosting the second show on October 20 at the Becker College Equestrian Center in Paxton.
