Equestrian Places 6th at JWU Show

On Sunday, March 17, 2013, the Becker College Equestrian Team attended the last horse show of the 2012-2013 season at Johnson and Wales' equestrian facility in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.  This show had originally been scheduled for Saturday, March 9th, but had to be rescheduled due to a snow storm.   Equestrian finished the day in 6th place, collecting a green ribbon, fitting for St. Patrick's Day!

Emily McGuirk, a sophomore, competed in the open division and placed 3rd in her jumping class.

Catherine Merrill, a sophomore, competed in Intermediate flat for the first time and placed 2nd.  She also rode in Novice over fences and placed 3rd.  This pointed her out of Novice and into Intermediate fences.  Starting next year, she will be competing in both Intermediate flat and fences.  The third place finish also qualified her for regionals.

Larissa Melia, a freshman, competed in Novice flat and fences.  She placed 3rd in her jumping class and 2nd in her flat class.

Terise Cole showed in Novice flat.  She placed 2nd in her class and qualified for regionals!  Next year, she'll be competing in Intermediate flat, which is one division higher than Novice.

Nicole Smeaton and Katie Keune competed in walk/trot/canter.   Nicole placed 6th and Katie placed 2nd.

Justin Gilbert and Brooke Cote competed in the walk/trot division.  Justin placed 5th in his class and Brooke placed 3rd in her class.

Congratulations to Emily McGuirk (Intermediate fences), Catherine Merrill (Novice fences and flat), Terise Cole (Novice flat), Nicole Smeaton (walk/trot), and Scott Tongue (walk/trot) for qualifying for Regionals this year!  Regionals will be held on Saturday, March 23rd, in Connecticut.  Good luck to all of the riders competing!
