LEICESTER, Mass. – Hawks sophomore Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, Mass.) scored two goals, including an overtime game-winner, in the Hawks 3-2 victory over Suffolk on Friday evening and as a result, Wozniak has been named the Becker Athlete of the Week, for the week ending on March 14.
In Becker's only game this week, Wozniak and the Hawks had to come from two goals down to earn the win.
Wozniak got the Hawks on the board late in the second period, redirecting a pass from behind the goal by sophomore Katie Puumala (Framingham, Mass.) to make it 2-1 Suffolk.
After the Hawks tied the game in the third period on a power-play goal, the game headed for overtime, where Wozniak sent the Hawks home with the victory.
The game-winning play started in the defensive zone with a shot block by junior Julia Ravenelle (Barrington, N.H.). Ravenelle was able to gather in the shot block and make a pass to Wozniak, who came off the bench in a line change, headed toward the Rams goal on a breakaway. Wozniak showed patience on the breakaway and was able to beat the Rams goalie for the 3-2 win.
Wozniak's Athlete of the Week nod is her second this season. She was given the honors on the week ending on Feb. 14 this season.
The Hawks have three games this week, starting with a rematch against Suffolk on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. followed by a home-and-home with Nichols on Friday and Saturday.
