Women's Ice Hockey Celebrates Senior Night, Ties With Nichols 4-4

WORCESTER – The Nichols Bison came from three goals down in the third period on Friday evening, forcing a 4-4 tie at Becker tonight.

 

Before the game, the Hawks program recognized seniors Cameron Payne (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Katherine Capobianco (North Andover, Mass.) for their contributions to the women's ice hockey program.

 

Junior Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) had a pair of first-period assists, two of her three on the night that would make her the Hawks all-time leading scorer in program history. Conway, after her three-assist night, has 25 goals and 30 assists for 55 career points. The 30 assists are also a new program record.

GAME SUMMARY

The Hawks led 4-1 in the third period, but a pair of Bison goals scored 1:54 apart cut the deficit to just 4-3.

Nichols sophomore Kayla Currin (Hudson, Mass.) netted her first of the season at 7:04 to make it 4-2. That goal was followed by junior Isabella Portt (Belleville, Ontario, Canada) at 8:58, the second goal of the game for Portt, making it 4-3.

Then the game-tying goal came off the stick of senior Mel McAleer (Hanson, Mass.) on the power-play, after she fired a wrist shot from the right-wing circle and over the glove of Hawks sophomore goalie Maddy Morgan (Riverside, Calif.) to tie the game 4-4.

The Hawks were out to a quick start, scoring two goals in 41 seconds in the first period. Freshman Anya Laxton (Holbrook, N.Y.) got the scoring started to give Becker a 1-0 lead while that goal was quickly followed by sophomore Katie Puumala (Framingham, Mass.), who doubled the advantage to 2-0.

Freshman Amy MacGlashing (Marlborough, Mass.) netted her second of the season early in the third period, a goal that gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

Junior Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, Mass.) netted her first goal since Jan. 18, 2019, a tally that gave put Becker ahead 4-1 at the time.

 

FOR THE HAWKS

  • Sophomore Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, Mass.) had two assists on the evening. She's up to four assists and 11 points.
  • Payne finished with an assist in her Senior Night performance. The helper came on the MacGlashing goal, giving her three assists this season.
  • Morgan made a career-high 52 saves on the evening, moving to 1-2-1 with the tie.

 

FOR THE BISON

  • Junior Alicia Hunks (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada) finished with two assists, her first two helpers on the year.
  • Sophomore goalie Julia Carroll (Albert Bridge, Nova Scotia, Canada) made 37 saves for the Bison, moving to 0-1-1 after the tie.

 

UP NEXT

The Hawks and Bison face off again tomorrow with Nichols hosting Becker at 5:40 p.m. at Levy Rink.
