NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – High-scoring innings in the bottom of the first and fourth provided plenty of offense for Anna Maria, as the AMCATS defeated the Becker Hawks 12-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME SUMMARY
Early in the bottom of the first, a series of walks and hit batters loaded the bases with one out for Anna Maria. Senior Noah Holland (Sandwich, Mass.) cleared the bases with a double down the left-field line, giving the AMCATS a 3-0 lead.
After an RBI single later in the inning by senior Jason Shell (Sandwich, Mass.) made it 4-0, AMCATS junior Nick Morley (Millbury, Mass.) stepped in and delivered a two-run home run to right-field, capping a six-run first inning for Anna Maria.
The Hawks did find responses in the top of the second with an RBI single by sophomore Niko Mokanos (Montvale, N.J.) and back-to-back, bases-loaded hit batters to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Five more runs in the bottom of the fourth by the AMCATS, three of them on RBI singles, stretched their lead to 12-3.
Becker added a pair of runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by freshman Ethan Perry (Dartmouth, Mass.) and an RBI single for junior Andrew Bumpus (Carver, Mass.) in the eventual 12-5 loss.
FOR THE HAWKS
- Bumpus batted 3-for-4 on the day, all singles, with one RBI.
- Senior Noah Rivera (New Bedford, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a double.
- Junior Adam Conanan (Staten Island, N.Y.) pitched five innings but falls to 0-1 with the loss.
FOR THE AMCATS
- Shell finished 4-for-5, all singles, with an RBI and two runs scored.
- All nine starters for Anna Maria had at least one hit.
- Freshman Anthony Pingeton (Charlton, Mass.) took credit for the win and improves to 2-0.
UP NEXT
The Hawks open conference play this Friday and Saturday with a four-game set against Eastern Nazarene. The Lions host on April 2, starting at 2:00 p.m. while the Hawks host April 3 starting at noon. The AMCATS head to Saint Joseph's College for a doubleheader on April 3, starting at noon.
