MARLBOROUGH, Mass.– SUNY Canton scored four unanswered goals on their way to a 5-2 win over Becker College in non-conference men's ice hockey action Saturday evening at the New England Sports Center. The Win ups the Kangaroos record to 2-9-1, while the Ice Hawks fall to 1-8-2.
Canton got on the board just 2:37 into regulation when freshman Nick Vasilopoulos (Montreal, Quebec) gathered a loose puck in front of the Becker net and slid it past Greg Hussy (Medford, Mass.) for his first collegiate goal. Becker responded 2:32 later when Antonio Baccari (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) took a pass from Kyle Godfrey (Geneva, Ill.) and scored top shelf, tying the game at 1-1.
The Ice Hawks took the lead 12:47 into the second period when Conner Allison (Hillsboro, Ore.) snuck a back hand past Canton goalie Christopher Marsillo (Lincroft, N.J.) for his first collegiate goal. The Kangaroos tied the game with 3:33 remaining in the second period when Joe Casale (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) netted a power play goal with a point blank wrist shot, beating Hussey glove side.
Canton took the lead for good 1:33 into the third period when Zach Paisley (Yonkers, N.Y.) scored a power play goal, giving the Kangaroos a 3-2 advantage. Canton increased their lead to 4-2 when J.R. Lafferty (Williamstown, N.J.) redirected a shot of a Becker defender and into the back of the net. A late goal by Dave Schneider (Indianapolis, Ind.) gave Canton the convincing 5-2 victory.
Canton netminder Christopher Marsillo made 44 stops to earn his first win of the season. Becker goalie Greg Hussey turned away 33 shots in a losing effort.
The Ice Hawks return to action on January 3rd when they host Trinity College at 12:00 p.m.
