LEICESTER, Mass.- Becker College defeated Rhode Island College 3-0 in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win lifts the Hawks record to 5-4, while the Anchorwomen sink to 1-8.
The Hawks got on the board 15:57 into the first half when Katherine Cormier (San Diego, Calif.) headed a corner kick from Alyssa Bond (Thompson, Conn.) into the Rhode Island College net for her third goal of the season.
Becker increased their lead to 2-0 with 12:22 remaining in regulation when Alycia Dery fed Alison Mosdale (Malborough, Conn.) down the near sideline. Mosdale promptly ripped a shot past the dive of Rhode Island College goalie Justina Thoma (Canterbury, Conn.).
The Anchorwomen had a great opportunity to get on the board late in the second half when Elsa Almeida (Coventry, R.I.) scampered all alone down the near sideline, but Becker goalie Kaitlyn Rose (North Attleboro, Mass.) held her ground to preserve the 2-0 lead.
The Hawks secured the 3-0 win when Alison Mosdale tallied her second goal of the game on an assist from classmate Rebecca Carkhuff (Amherst, Mass.) with 25 seconds remaining on the clock.
Kaitlyn Rose made four saves to earn her first shutout of the season. Justina Thoma kept the Anchorwomen in the game with 11 saves.
Both teams return to the pitch on Saturday, October 4. The Hawks will continue NECC action when they host Mitchell College at 11:00 a.m. The Anchorwomen will resume play against Little East rival Keene State at 1:00 p.m.
