CHICOPEE, Mass. – Blazers sophomore Musa Jiana (Brikama, Gambia) scored both goals for Elms, one in each half, as the Elms Blazers picked up their first victory of the season thanks to a 2-1 win over the Becker Hawks on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Score: Elms 2 – Becker 1

GAME SUMMARY

Coming off a scoreless draw between the Hawks and Blazers on Saturday afternoon, Jiana finally got one of the two teams on the board in the 16th minute to give Elms a 1-0 lead.

Off a Blazers corner kick, the ball was sent all the way to the back post before being crossed back to the other side where Jiana was waiting to head the ball into the net for the opening goal of the day.

The Hawks would find the net for the first time this season, late in the first half, on a goal by sophomore Alfredo Alvarez (Romulus, Mich.) in the 43rd minute to tie the game 1-1.

Jiana would put Elms back ahead in the 63rd minute with his second of the game, eventually becoming the game-winning score in the Blazers 2-1 victory.

FOR THE HAWKS

  • In addition to the Hawks goal, Alvarez also led the Hawks with three shots on goal.
  • Freshman goalie Luke Speers (Collegeville, Pa.) made six saves, but the loss drops him to 0-1-1.

FOR THE BLAZERS

  • Much like Alvarez for Becker, Jiana led Elms with three shots on goal.
  • Sophomore goalie Brandon Mclean (Windsor, Conn.) made a career-best five saves and grabs his first career win to improve to 1-0-1.

UP NEXT

The Hawks return to play after nearly a week off as they welcome Albertus Magnus to Alumni Field on Saturday, April 3, for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff. The Blazers head to Nichols on March 31; the time of the game has yet to be announced.
