New England Collegiate Conference Release
LEICESTER, Mass. and MANSFIELD, Mass. – Five members of the Hawks softball program were named to an All-Conference Team in the New England Collegiate Conference, following the regular season voting by the coaches and announced by the NECC this afternoon.
Hawks senior Sarah Ellis (Berkley, Mass.) and junior Ashley Veillette (Danielson, Conn.) were both named to the NECC First Team while junior Emily Iacovelli (Northbridge, Mass.) and sophomore Holly Letourneau (Woonsocket, R.I.) were placed on the NECC Second Team. Junior Emma Perry (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was named to the Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team.
Ellis, an NECC First Team Shortstop, led many categories in the Hawks lineup this season, including batting a team-best .398 with team-highs in hits (37) and doubles (11). Veillette was named the First Team Utility Player, after batting .351, including ranking second on the team with 34 hits, six home runs, and 24 RBI. In the pitching circle, Veillette went 7-7 with a 3.53 ERA and 47 strikeouts.
Iacovelli was an NECC Second Team Designed Player after batting .348 this season, including ranking third on the team with four home runs and 19 RBI. Letourneau was named to the NECC Second Team at Third Base after her season of .384, including tied for the most home runs in the conference with seven.
Lesley University senior Jordan Day (Seminole, Fla.) was voted the 2021 NECC Player of the Year. Eastern Nazarene freshman Jennelle Munoz (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) was named both Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year, which marks the first time a student-athlete has earned both accolades in the same year. Lesley head coach Heather Ross was voted Coach of the Year by her peers.
