GAME SUMMARY
In one of the closest games of the tournament and the Hawks season, only runs for Lesley in the third and sixth innings would provide the scoring in the 2-0 Lynx win.
In the third, Lesley senior Jordan Day (Seminole, Fla.) led off the inning with a solo home run over the right-center field fence, giving the Lynx a 1-0 lead.
In the sixth, freshman Samantha Mecklenburg came in as a pinch runner after a double by senior Kristen DiCicco (Wantagh, N.Y.). Mecklenburg advanced to third on a groundout and would eventually score on a wild pitch to give Lesley a 2-0 lead.
The Hawks had a chance in the top of the third to start the scoring. With runners on second and third and one out, a strikeout and a groundout ended the Hawks threat, keeping the game scoreless.
In the top of the fourth, the Hawks looked to tie the game, but sophomore Holly Letourneau (Woonsocket, R.I.) was thrown out at the plate, trying to score on a sacrifice fly.
The Hawks had a final opportunity in the sixth with two runners on, but back-to-back pop outs to the shortstop again ended the Hawks scoring chance.
FOR THE HAWKS
- Senior Sarah Ellis (Berkley, Mass.), junior Elizabeth Simonian (Auburn, Mass.), and freshman Jillana Stevens (Farmington, N.H.) all finished 1-for-3 at the plate.
- Letourneau batted 1-for-2. Ellis, Simonian, Stevens, and Letourneau combined for the only four hits for the Hawks.
- Junior Ashley Veillette (Danielson, Conn.) pitched six innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
FOR THE LYNX
- DiCicco finished a perfect 3-for-3, including a pair of doubles.
- Day batted 1-for-2, including her sixth home run of the season.
- Junior Kara Haga (Levittown, N.Y.) pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out five.
