Gallo Posts Double-Double As Women's Basketball Falls To DWC

NASHUA, N.H. – Kayla Free (Quincy, Mass.) netted a game high 23 points including four three-pointers and Ashley England (Old Town, Maine) added 20 points and eight assists leading host Daniel Webster past Becker, 76-58 in the Eagles' home finale Thursday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

The win pushed DWC (6-18, 6-1 NECC) into sole possession of seventh place in the NECC with one game remaining and the Eagles took a one-game lead over Bay Path for the final playoff spot. Bay Path was upset earlier in the evening by Lesley.

DWC will need to win at Lesley on Saturday (game time is 2:00 p.m.) or a Bay Path loss at Elms to clinch the final spot outright and play NECC tournament quarterfinal game on Tuesday.

Escarlin Reynoso (Lawrence, Mass.) notched 17 points for the winners, adding three assists and four steals, while Nicole Beard (Shelton, Conn.) posted 11 points with four steals.
Natalie Nagle (Dolgeville, N.Y.) led DWC with seven rebounds and added two points and two steals in her final collegiate home contest.
Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.) led Becker (2-22, 2-15 NECC) with a double double of 18 points and 11 rebounds while Alycia Dery (Millville, Mass.) and Brooke Martel (Griswold, Conn.) notched 16 points apiece.
DWC was outrebounded 38-33 and Becker shot better overall (49-42 percent) but DWC was aided by 33 Hawks turnovers leading to 29 Eagle points. The Eagles finished with a key 21-8 advantage in steals.
Becker led by as many as four early on but DWC took control with a 14-0 run midway through the opening half keyed by  pair of Reynoso baskets and five points from Free to turn a 16-15 deficit into a 29-16 lead at the six minute mark of the period and DWC took a 13-point lead into intermission.
The Eagles held Becker to six points over the opening seven minutes of the second and the lead ballooned out to as high as 25 after a Free steal and layup. Becker pulled no closer than 16 the rest of the way.
