Elms surges past Men's Hoops in second half of NECC tilt

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Becker College men's basketball team lost 76-61 to visiting Elms College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play at the Leicester Gymnasium on the campus of Becker College in Leicester.

FOR THE HAWKS OF BECKER

  • Becker sophomore guard Jordan Rose-Wheatley (New Bedford, Mass. / Bridgton Academy) led the Hawks with 15 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the floor and pulling down four rebounds.
  • Junior forward Guney Kilitcioglu (Istanbul, Turkey / The Koc School) finished with 14 points and three boards, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor with two three-pointers.                 
  • Freshman guard Marcus Goss (Hartford, Conn. / Weaver) matched a career-high with 10 points, all of them in the first half. Goss went 4-for-4 from the floor in the first half.
  • Junior forward Mateus Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil / Colegio Pedroso e Oliveira) dished out seven assists while pulling down eight boards.
  • Freshman forward Terrance Edwards (New Haven, Conn. / New Haven Academy) recorded eight points and two rebounds off the bench.

FOR THE BLAZERS OF ELMS

  • Elms sophomore guard David Lopez Jr. (Willimantic, Conn. / Lyman Memorial) led the Blazers with 19 points, shooting five-of-six from the floor while dishing out nine assists and pulling down four rebounds.
  • Junior guard D.J. Edelen (Prince George, Va. / King George) finished with 16 points and four rebounds.
  • Freshman guard Tahquell Cadel (Bridgeport, Conn. / Platt Tech) added 11 points and six boards.
  • The Blazers collectively shot 45.5 percent from behind the arc, and 50 percent from the floor overall.

TURNING POINT

  • The game was tied 33-33 at halftime and was tied at 45-45 with 13:47 remaining in the second. But an 11-2 run by Elms saw the Blazers pull ahead, and another 11-2 run in the closing minutes would ice it.

UP NEXT
The Hawks are back on the court next Saturday when they finish their regular season at Lesley University in a 1:30 p.m. game against the host Lynx.
