LEICESTER, Mass. – A year to the day since the Hawks were last on the court, the women's basketball program returned to Leicester Gymnasium for the first time in competition with a 70-42 loss at the hands of Gordon College.

GAME SUMMARY
In a high-scoring first quarter, it was Gordon College out in front with the early advantage, scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the opening three minutes to hold a 10-2 lead. Fighting Scots freshman Caroline Sikkink (Fairview, N.C.) had seven points on 3-of-3 shooting in those opening minutes.
The Hawks clawed back to trail by as few as six thanks to an 8-2 run in the middle of the quarter, but Gordon stretched out their advantage by quarters-end, scoring the final seven points of the opening quarter and leading 32-16.
The Scots locked down defensively in the second quarter, holding Becker to five points on two made field goals. Despite the Hawks best defensive quarter of the game, the Scots outscored the Hawks 12-5 in the quarter, as they led at halftime 38-18.
Gordon pushed their lead higher in the third with the help of 7-for-13 shooting, again outscoring the Hawks by double-digits and taking a 56-25 lead into the third.
An impressive fourth quarter for Hawks freshman Chloe LaPierre (Plainfield, Conn.) helped the Hawks win the final quarter scoring battle, but Gordon walked away with the 70-42 victory.
FOR THE HAWKS
- LaPierre finished with a game-high 20 points and six steals. The 20-point performance is the most points scored by a Hawks player in an opening day game in at least the last 10 seasons.
- Senior Jazlyn Contreras (Westport, Mass.) added eight points and five assists.
FOR THE SCOTS
- Sikkink scored a team-high 19 points in her collegiate debut. She added nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
- Freshman Caleigh Williams (Kent, Wash.) was impressive for Gordon, coming off the bench for 13 points and nine rebounds in 23 minutes.
- Sophomore Serianna Anderson (Newcastle, Wash.) chipped in 10 points.
UP NEXT
The Hawks are back in action with a home-and-home series on March 5 and 6 against Elms College. The Blazers host the Hawks on March 5 at 6:00 p.m. while the Hawks host Saturday's afternoon game at 1:00 p.m. The Scots are back with a home-and-home of their own, facing Curry College on March 5 and 6.
