Hawks Fall in Friday Evening Game at Johnson & Wales, 14-7

PROVIDENCE – Wildcats senior Dani Lydecker (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) finished with a career-high 10 points on six goals and four assists, leading the Johnson & Wales Wildcats to a 14-7 win over the Becker Hawks on Friday evening in non-conference play.

GAME SUMMARY

The Wildcats took control in the opening minutes, scoring the first six goals over the course of 11:47 in the first half. Lydecker had two goals and two assists in the opening 6-0 run that put Johnson & Wales out front.

The Hawks broke into the scoring column midway through the first half on the ninth goal of the season by junior Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.), making it 6-1.

Lydecker netted the last two goals of the half for the Wildcats, as they took an 8-1 lead into the half.

The Hawks and Wildcats each scored six goals in the second half, but the Hawks never got closer than a six-goal deficit. Conway, and juniors Julia Ravenelle (Barrington, N.H.) and Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each scored twice in the second half in the Hawks 14-7 loss.

 

FOR THE HAWKS

  • Conway finished with three goals and two assists, contributing to five of the Hawks seven goals.
  • Sophomore Mikayla Leibowitz (Bethany, Conn.) collected a team-high seven ground balls.
  • Freshman Chloe Isola (Oviedo, Fla.) finished with six saves, falling to 1-4 with the loss.

 

FOR THE WILDCATS

  • Along with her 10-point evening, Lydecker added four draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
  • Freshman Maris DiBenedetto (Southbury, Conn.) scored three goals to go with six ground balls.
  • Freshman Emma Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) made nine saves for the Wildcats, improving to 2-3 with the victory.

The Hawks return to conference play on April 13 with a road trip to New England College at 7:00 p.m. The Wildcats return on April 14 with a trip to Dean College at 4:00 p.m.
